Mark
Burford is a Long Island native who has spent most of his life
around microbreweries. After spending several years in the NAVY,
living in various places in the U.S. Mark’s love for brewing beer
became more than just a hobby. Living in California in the early
80’s Mark found himself in the center of the microbrew revolution.
Mark began to volunteer at breweries in his spare time to learn
more about the industry.
The
notion of becoming a part of the emerging American microbrew movement
drove him to get a part-time position at Honolulu Brewing Company
and to learn as much as he could about the industry. When he returned
to New York, there weren’t any breweries on Long Island,
so he opened up a home brew supply store where his future partner
was a frequent customer.
He
later became Brewmaster for Long Island Brewing Company in Jericho
and then began to work at Cobblestone Brewery and Winery in Huntington.
Not long after Pete joined him at Cobblestone, they decided to
open Long Island’s only exclusive microbrewery, Blue Point
Brewing Company.
Mark
is proud of the high quality beer the brewery produces and hopes
that the Blue Point Brewing Company becomes a part of Long Island
culture and heritage.
