Garden
Festival 2006 at Farmingdale State
June 10-11, 2006
On Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11, Farmingdale State University
of New York will offer a two-day Garden Festival 2006, a unique
opportunity to enjoy the Ornamental Horticulture Teaching Gardens
while supporting the academic offerings of the College.
On Saturday, June 10 and Sunday, June 11 from 10:00 a.m. –
5:00 p.m., the public is invited to tour the gardens, to ask questions
of experts, to listen to garden and landscape experts, to visit
landscape and garden booths, and to buy plants as well as food
and arts and crafts. Admission is free.
On
Sunday, June 11 from 3:00-7:00 p.m., the College’s traditional
Garden Party will be held for honorees and invited guests to honor
an outstanding and well respected member of the industry - Fritz
Schaefer of Atlantic Nurseries, Inc. One of the not-to-be-missed
events of the year, this elegant outdoor afternoon party is held
under tents in the teaching gardens. For information on tickets,
call 631-420-2075.
Over
the years, the College has worked closely with the billion dollar
horticulture industry. That relationship has resulted in the creation
of the Farmingdale Horticulture Committee which has raised funds
to provide scholarships, specialized laboratories and, most significantly,
internships for students to maintain the College’s four-acre
Teaching Gardens. The Teaching Gardens provide a living laboratory
in which students apply classroom theory to the practical, hands-on
aspect of the horticulture industry.
Go
into any garden center on Long Island and you will find graduates
and students of Farmingdale State University of New York’s
outstanding Department of Ornamental Horticulture.
